Providing long-term drought resilience strategies and implementation.

We have a small cattle property at the beginning of Granite Belt on the Southern Darling Downs. It relied on an intermittent creek and several dams for stock water. In 2019, we received 120 mm of rain for the entire year, the creek and all dams dried up, and we had to completely restock. We had attempted drilling a number of subs — 100 — meter bores with no success. We had been told by a number of people (including drillers) that bore drilling was a pointless task in the area.
That said, I’d seen that Sustainable Water had had some success in the area using multiple sources of data to locate potential deep bore sites. I contracted Jim Conley and Ross Martiensen to survey the area using geophysical data sets for the property, the data sources were then overlaid on a property map and a number of high probability drilling sites were identified. Onsite passive seismic survey data was collected at the identified sites. We elected to drill at the highest point on the property amongst granite boulders. At 350 meters we found water — potential to produce approx. 40,000 litres per hour. Water quality is very good — crystal clear with low levels of mineralisation. Water is standing at 20 meters, and we have installed a solar pump and tank (pumping at around 20,000 litres per day at this stage) and we will reticulated water to multiple stock watering points on the property.
I believe we would not have had the success we did without Sustainable Water’s adoption of scientific methods of locating high probability drilling zones, combined with significantly increased drilling depths for our area. Jim and Ross were fantastic to deal with — very professional and reliable. They appear to have built up some unique IP that warrants being widely adopted. I’d highly recommended Sustainable Water.

This is a Long post, but it talks to water shortage, (Not a big issue this year) But in usual years a problem for Many in our valley and rural areas. It May be interesting to others as it points to an intriguing, somewhat new science.
My problem is a chronic shortage of water at the top of the divide. We have lots of dams and have maximised our harvestable right, but with the weather changes over the last 20 years they rarely fill (Except this year). Great dam, Just add water. I have some bores, but they ran out 2 years into the last drought... We were stuffed.
I believe they are the usual caper tee valley bores at the Mt Marsden end of the valley i. E. 60 or so metres, rubbish water. Our water killed grass if pumped straight onto it. We used a hydro-smart to treat it which stopped that, but it was poor water. Geology... It seems that at 60 to 80 metres there is an impervious layer upon which water accumulates and which we pump from while it lasts.
A couple of years ago I saw a landline show about a company sustainable water solutions that was prospecting water at great depth and finding water in places where there was officially no underground water. I think it was the granite belt in QLD. They were finding it with new technologies, and old... I like eclectic people who Will go with what works. I spoke to Jim Conley to see what they do.
Long story short, they came to my property, prospected and found water 50 metres (Luckily) From power and pipes at 400 or so metres i. E. Very deep! After my drought trauma, I decided to risk it and contracted a driller they sourced from QLD who shoots straight i.e. Accurate, they drilled and at 380 metres got 32, 000 litres (7,000 gallons) Per hour. I need 3600 in a drought. I now have long showers.
Science. We all know the usual hydrologic cycle. Water evaporates from the oceans, falls as rain, some flows to the sea and some percolates down and hits an impermeable layer and fills an aquifer (Which we May access).
This is apparently not that water. The deep or primary water theory posits that some 30 – 40 KM deep in the earth’s mantle, the high temps and pressure cause s silicone dioxide SI o 2, to cleave and liberate o 2 (Oxygen) . The theory goes that it finds a proton i.e. Hydrogen ion and forms water. This water migrates toward the surface, and there is apparently some tens of Cubic kilometres below the surface more (Fresh) water than in the oceans. What sustainable water look for is cracks in the crust that act as a pipe to bring it to where we can access it. The imaging technology looks for these cracks. If you tap into one it seems you have an ocean to pump from. The company are mad to get this technology and knowledge out as they wish to water the planet.
With my bore the last 280 metres was in solid granite and basalt and did not hit water in a sedimentary or conglomerate aquifer which support’s the theory. Our water was under pressure, the water at 380 meters Rose to 70 metres.
The primary water theory has been round since the 50s. Interested people could Google Stephan Reiss, Clipperton island and hydrothermal vents.
The current theory of the source of the ocean’s water is extra — terrestrial, i.e. Comet impacts a Long time ago, i.e. Scarce water. This theory posits that it is being manufactured now, and it is not scarce. It May be the cause of the purported sea level rise?
Whatever the theory, sustainable water predicted various water amounts and qualities at various depths using high tech and dowsing and delivered. Their 3 NSW customers before me all got water. People May have another option.
My water is “hardish”, slightly alkaline (I’m in acid country). I filter it to drink it. For domestic use I run it through the hydro — smart and a sand filter to decrease the “minerality”... For the Long showers, I like.
I hope this was interesting and for some an option.

Before using Sustainable Water Pty Ltd — D. D drilled 3 or 4 ‘dry’ bores at considerable cost. At the first bore sited by Sustainable Water D.D. hit 56 m of productive sands producing an estimated 15 Megalitres per day. This will enable the irrigation of over 250 hectares.

As the mercies of my deep well’s liquid faded to spitting bursts of dry air no more could be done but watch and wait for fate to sink its deep knife of hopeless despair into my youthful dreams of milk and Honey.
I called for help in local circles the answers were Just shrouds of silence as the unwanted truth remained unspoken lest its impact destroy my fading hope and that prised “resilience”.
A sober note was struck aired through national TV “sustainable water”.
I was not alone there were in fact Many like me.

We reckoned that using data that had been gathered over a period of years, and some modern technology, would give us a much better chance of a good result. We were very hopeful of getting good water.
